Born in Israel (1957)

( abstract )

Artist, photographer, a green activist, producer, curator, one of the leaders for environmental and social change.

Shai Zakai creates processes which promote eco-tourism and environmental education through art, culture and spirit.

She creates in photography and in conceptual art involving installations and multi-media to react upon ecological and environmental issues. Zakai works as a lecturer and curator of photography and of eco-art, besides her work in her photography & eco-art centre.

Shai Zakai is the director and founder of "The Israeli Forum For Ecological Art" a non profit Association , and Initiated and established several community green movements - (1996),‘Matzilim Yerukim’( Green Savers ), (1999) Environmental Forum of Mateh Yehuda regional council, and created "The First International Art & Ecology Conference in Israel" and currently - Artists' Marathon - "A dialog with the Environment".

Shai is an active member of the eco-arts internationaly network.

Chosen to represent Israel with ‘Faces and Facets’- her traveling photo exhibition in Ohio, USA through 1998, and to present her work in international conferences such as - Art,community & environment In Nevada, 2000, "Art Culture Nature" in Arizona.

Author of ‘Faces and Facets’ (1994) and winner of the second Biennale prize for photography at the Ein Harod Museum of Art (1988). Teaches Ecological art course in Tel-Aviv Univ. and at The Tel-Hai academic college, first course in Israel (2000).

Zakai is a winner of the "Artist-teacher prize" for 2000-2001, from the ministry of Sience & culture. Her three years' eco-art project "Concrete Creek 1999-2002" has been presented and exhibited both in U.S.A - Nevada, Arizona, California, in Berlin, Potsdam -Germany, South Africa, Japan and in Israel. Conducted an ecoart session and presented her work at Earth-Summit in Johannsburg (2002 ) as a representative of the Social & Environmental Coalition in Israel, and at The 3rd World Water Forum ( 2003 ) , in Kyoto as the 1st artist in a formal, foreign office's delegation of environmental issues .

Has exhibited in Greece, Germany, Italy, China, South Africa, Japan, Korea, the USA and Israel in some 42 group shows and 22 solo exhibitions.
